MY Dettingen opponent rang this morning and asked: "Guess what we got wrong?"
Immediately he spoke, it flashed into my head - command & control.
Usually in Game Of Kings, we use a 10-sided die to decide action points, or pips, for the main body of an army, and two distinguishable six-sided dice for the other two sections of an army.
But because the forces we used for refighting Dettingen were smaller than usual, I changed this to a six-sided die and two four-sided dice.
However, instead of using actual four-sided dice, we used six-sided ones, with the intention of re-rolling if they came up 5 or 6.
We remembered this most of the time, but occasionally, in the heat of battle, we forgot.
As the Duke of Noailles might have said: "C'est la vie." Or, more aptly: "C'est la guerre."
