Battles Of The Bible

HAVE just finished rereading Battles Of The Bible by Chaim Herzog and Mordechai Gichon (Book Club Associates 1978).
The authors, both former military men who served in the British and Israeli armed forces, examine more than 30 battles, plus a lot of sieges, fought by Israelites against a large range of enemies, including Assyrians, Egyptians and Philistines.
Testament … to ancient warfare
Many of the Old Testament accounts are terse, to say the least, but Herzog & Gichon use their military expertise, and other contemporary sources where available, to flesh out the bare details.
I bought the book secondhand - I cannot recall where or when - but regard it as one of the best returns I have ever had for spending a fiver, which seems to be what it cost me.
